are .env not rendered to the browser then or something? What is to stop someone from viewing the app in their browser and fetching your API key out of the rendered JS with inspect element?

From a “security/ privacy” standpoint, how is this any better than just having a js file with a variable for thr api key in it?

Always amazing energy! But I have a question, I've add .env to git ignore, I've push the git to the remote, everything fine. But now there's no .env also on my local machine. Someone that know why?

This video is about a complete solution for managing environment variables in Node.js without dotenv or any third package.

Use in Dev, Prod, UAT or any other environment without any issue.

hm the thing I am wondering is, when you pull environment variables (e.g for http requests) out of the environment file, will those values not be seen as cleartext in the code, e.g when you send a network request somewhere?

I read api keys are included in react build.
Is that’s true or we can really hide api keys using this tutorial?
