I hate the way the government is continuously, and quietly, extending itself into our lives beyond what they need to. It's never ending. Let's hope this doesn't pass. If it does, will a VPN even help anymore?

Most people think this is about free speech when it is clearly not. This is about fair use. You could freely say what you want about any movie or a song; you just can’t include any portion of it! These bots are copyright holder’s wet dreams funneled to politicians-for-hire through perfectly legal lobbyists. Citizens United, DMCA are just corporate protectionism.

The one upside is that ISPs will likely fight anything like this, as we know they really don't like being regulated or want to be held liable, so hopefully Comcast will use some of that money they've been hoarding to do a good thing for once.

Yeah, this is kinda scary. We tend to misuse "Free Speech" as a constitutional term, since it's really aimed more at preventing government retaliation than a "say what you want" kind of thing. Acts like DMCA create a framework for digital copyright actions, but the government doesn't take an active role in finding and removing content. If they had that power, that would be a huge freedom of speech concern. Since that's exactly what this bill seems to want to do, consider me concerned.

This sounds like a system that could easily be exploited to take down whatever you want or just create chaos.

And then we'll all be paying for VPN services from ISPs outside of the U.S. Perhaps the internet will become entirely encrypted so such bots become useless.

Your vote has consequences. Know who and what you support. This is a direct attack on free speech and it will affect all of us.

This is what you get when you have legal corruption in the USA, called lobbying.

America needs to stop thinking they own the World. The internet does not belong to America.

This problem is not just limited to internet censorship, it is what happens when voters put grossly ignorant politicians into office. They are clueless about technology (usually all lawyers) while leading the country down a radical leftist abyss. The government will control speech, censor the internet and establish its Ministry of Truth.

A horrible dystopian result for such legislation. Bots / algoritmes blocking and harming people’s rights should never be. Asimov’s robotic laws should be applied to such algorithms. The absence of an appeal process will basically turn society into society shown in the movie Brasil! And all online communication basically being converted in a never ending call center flow diagram that just loops and loops…
