SyntaxError: invalid syntax

I'm doing this tutorial as I try and get into learning python. I keep getting the syntax error for the line of code with await.message.
Saying that await is outside of a function, and the few things I tried kept saying it was still outside the function. What do I do to fix?

On my line that says
if message.content.startswith(‘$hello’):
I get an error that says “undefined name ‘message’”

Also on my line that says await message.channel.send(‘Hello!’)”
I get an error that says ‘await’ outside function. Can someone help me fix these two problems?
