I live 2 counties away from Nashville and gas is around 4.29. The economy here is still kicking only because everyone is moving to Nashville.

Not sure if the example from 2007 is the same. The major difference is price inflation is staggering today compared to then. So yes, people will cut back for sure lowering demand, but since uncontrolled inflation does not show any signs of slowing down, I think we will see fuel prices continue to escalate despite reduced demand. What will happen is price escalation will slow down, but not retreat….

High Gas and Diesel prices is part of the agenda to force people out of their vehicles. Pricing the gas and diesel out of the range people can afford will force people to have no choice to drive vehicles only when necessary.

I Agree with your thoughts 100% but I would simply add another consideration as the dominos fall.
A 40% increase in the money supply was created in the last 1.5 years. This was not the case in 2008. Direct payments to Individuals and businesses. Also, Over 1 billion in PPE Money was stolen which went directly into individuals accounts to spend immediately. These dollars have velocity.
Combine this with a two year lock down and people ready to spend like a compressed spring, inflation is not temporary. Hyperinflationary conditions are a probability if Saudi Arabia removes the dollar reserve status. I suspect the dollar will drop by 1/3 the day that is announced.
Once a disaster hits(pick your poison….war, earthquake, civil unrest, famine), commodities will continue to hold value with so many shortages.
I haven’t even discussed the massive chain supply issues this summer from China that my friends from FB and others say appear to be worse this year compared to 2020.
