Can we all just pause for a moment and marvel at Leon "playoff-beast" Draisaitl?
While being injured (i), he just goes out there, breaking records: – most points in a battle of Alberta (17; previous one was 14 by Wayne (who else?!)) – most assists in any PO series (15 – tied with noone) – most assists in a PO period (4)
His 17p also tie him for third place all time (any PO series) with Lemieux (in 6 games), only trailing Gretz (18p/6g) and Middleton (19p/7g) — all in just 5 games! (ii) He's also the 4th fastest to reach 50p (in 33games); McD cannot underbid this. + he's currently 3rd all time in points/game at 1.606 (players with atleast 50 points; Connor has yet to enter this category), just barely trailing Lemieux (1.607) and comfortably ahead of "second best player in the world" (lol) Nathan MacKinnon (1.367) who's 5th overall. He's also sitting at 1.061A/g, which has him in second place all time (atleast 30 assists); Connor is third (0.909) His goals/game (0.545) would rank 10th, but he only has 18 so far, which doesn't make the cut on quanthockey, which is fair (him and Connor are exactly equal in that department)
Also: With 19assists each, in just 12 games, Connor and Leon are both already in 30th position all time; with many more potential games to go; record would be 31 (in only 19 games, though!). Likewise, their 26p each, if they could play another 12 games, could even threaten the all time points record (46 in 18); which is a big "if", as Colorado is a tough nut to crack to get to the finals. There have been many years in the cap era, where 26p would have been enough to win the scoring title comfortably already…
The way this is going, maybe even Middletons record may be broken this year by one of these two — or both? A feat that was long thought impossible, because "the games just aren't that high scoring anymore as in the 80s", as commonplace had it. Well: this season was quite an outlier already during the reg. season, so theres that…
Anyone else picking up on, how subtly happier Leon is, when he can setup guys? It's like he's meant to be this generations Adam Oates. If only his world class one-timer/shot in general wouldn't force him to be a primary sniper ^^ Maybe Edmonton should really try to get a guy like Laine onboard, to free this guy up to play the style of hockey that he's instinctively drawn to? The oilers are scarce with talent when it comes to "natural goal scorers"; which just makes Leons two "50+g/100+p" seasons (only 26 players ever did that [twice or more], after all; only him and Ovi among active players) even more impressive!
Also… Having 5 games in a row (maybe more to come?) with 3+points/2+assists does sound very record-ish to me (after all: 2+point-games record is at just 8 games?!). Not sure where to look that up!
Now… lets just hope the refs don't screw the oilers over(, any more than tgey already have)!
i) his leg seems to have healed considerably; seems it may have been less severe than we thought — after he could hardly skate post the Mickey Anderson slewfoot. But he's still laboring with some wrist injury; his one-timer is off, as are his faceoffs. "No biggy!", says leon, going back to his natural mimdset of a pass-first guy. It really does show, how lopsided their forward group is: lots of playmaking, scarce with sniping talent. To the point, where a guy who relishes in setting up other guys is constantly tasked to be their triggerman on the powerplay!
ii) while McDavids first round series (14p/7games) ties him for tenth all time; an honor he shares with 10 others, though, which makes it as much "a top 20 achievement" as it is "tied for tenth"

COL this postseason : Shots For (398) vs Shots Against (270) = Differential (+128) EDM this postseason : Shots For (419) vs Shots Against (450) = Differential (-31)
AND the Oilers have twice the losses vs the Avs who haven't lost a game on the road yet.
Good luck! Avs in 6!

Oilers haven't played a fully healthy Avs yet, missing Girard now. Landeskog was missing in all 3 games. Avs didn't care about President's trophy, they came out and said that. On flip side, Avs haven't seen playoff Leon or McDavid. Going to be an exciting series!
